CBD e-liquids are generally made by mixing isolated CBD (a pure CBD extract) with a diluent, such as vegetable glycerine or propylene glycol, both of which serve as the base for all electronic cigarettes, whether or not they are enriched with CBD, and finally, the aromas or terpenes that define the flavor of the e-liquid.

How to choose your CBD e-liquid?

This very pertinent question is being asked more and more, so we’ve listed what we consider to be the most useful selection criteria to help you find your way around!

What flavours should you choose for your CBD e-liquid?

First of all, let’s talk about flavour: these are either aromas or terpenes that give e-liquids their flavor. Flavors are added artificially, based on the same principle as food flavors, for example. Terpenes, on the other hand, are the molecules naturally present in plants (cannabis, but also other plants and fruit and vegetables), and it’s these molecules that give foods their taste. Terpenes are therefore more natural than aromas. Cannabis terpenes will give your CBD e liquid a flavor naturally close to the plant from which it comes.

It should also be noted that, theoretically, CBD e-liquids made with cannabis terpenes may be slightly more effective thanks to the entourage effect (the principle whereby CBD is more effective in the presence of terpenes – the e-liquids). CBD e-liquids are not full spectrum and therefore do not benefit from the maximum entourage effect (CBD isolate is used to design CBD e-liquids, sometimes with terpenes but not with the oil composed of all cannabinoids). CBD e-liquids containing real cannabis terpenes and not flavourings are called broad spectrum e-liquids.

What is the PG/VG ratio of your CBD e-liquid?

The PG/VG blend used as a base for e-liquids generally represents 80% to 90% of the final product. Propylene glycol (PG) is used as a flavor enhancer, helping to liquefy the texture of CBD e-liquids. It also facilitates the nicotinic “hit” of classic e-liquids. On the other hand, Vegetable Glycerin (VG) makes the taste of blends more homogenous, and unlike PG, it tends to make e-liquids more viscous, making them more liquid, and finally, VG provides a thicker smoke. Consequently, PV and VG are both essential and complementary. The PG/VG ratio indicates the ratio in which these two components are found (thus the 50/50 ratio is the e-liquid from a base composed of 50 PV and 50 VG). This ratio is important to consider, as it affects the sensation you feel when you use a puff or e-cigarette. In general, the most popular ratios are 80/20, i.e. 80 PG and 20 VG, with many smokers also appreciating the 70/30 ratio. A 50/50 blend will give you more smoke. It is not recommended for beginners to choose VG higher than 50%.

What CBD concentration should you choose for your e-liquid?
